I have officially joined the “quarter of a century club”

So 25… Is it just me or do these birthdays come faster and faster every year? But as my grandfather always tells me “well you know what the alternative is to getting another year older don’t you kid?”… getting another year older is a gift not given to everyone so we should embrace every last second of this crazy thing we call life, because we only get one and we shouldn’t waste it, we should embrace the hell out of every moment and year, the good and the not so good.

So this year I decided that I would go on a weekend getaway to Fredericksburg, TX. Fredricksburg, to all my non Texas peeps, is a small town about 4 hours away from Houston that pretty much takes you to another dimension as far as Texas goes. Coming from Houston everything is flat and pretty city/metropolitan, take the 4 hour ride to Fredericksburg and you’re transported to a picturesque backdrop of rolling hills and the Texas wine country. This is the perfect girls weekend getaway! There is everything from hiking to shopping to wine. I mean honestly what more can you ask for in a weekend getaway?… nothing, I know!

What did we do?

Enchanted Rock – This is a must do you guys! The park is open 8am-10pm and it only cost $7 to get in. The summit trail is the most popular because it takes you right to the top and the views are nothing short of spectacular! It is a bit of a steep incline at some points but totally doable.

Shopping- Only my favorite activity! Main street is the place to go. They have everyhting you could ever be in search of. If you’ve visited my blog before you know that I love boutique shopping and let me tell ya, Main street satisfied my addiction. I found a ton of one of a kind clothing items and jewelry, which we all know puts me in a very happy place! I also found items hand made by local artist and even some one of kind pieces from artist in other countries, which I also love.  There are tons of fun resturants here, so as you’re trotting or shopping down Main St. you have plenty of options for a quick bite and even some live music.

Wine

We went to Hilmy Wine Cellars. This place is awesome, and it’s right up the road,  it took us 15 minuets to get there from our shopping adventures on Main St. and was the perfect cap to our evening before we went to dinner. I would recommend doing the sampling which is roughly $20 or so and you get to sample 5 different wines. Afterwards you can enjoy a glass on the back patio and overlook the vineyard and of course take some awesome pictures. They also have wines available for purchase if you feel like you need your own bottle or bottles… (who would say no to wine?.. Not me)

The stay

Contigo Ranch- Let me just say…this is my new favorite place in Texas, it was the perfect hill country getaway hotel, probably because it didn’t feel much like a hotel at all. Depending on how many people you’re with you can pick the cabin that will best suit you. I stayed in Cabin 8 and it was glorious, everything from the decor to the front porch rocking chairs, to the back patio that may lend the opportunity to see a few visitors like deer or a bunny here and there, every part of it was wonderful, and I haven’t even talked about the breakfast yet! Not only is the breakfast tasty but it is delivered to your door every morning in a tote with all the items  you could need, dishes, juices, milk, etc… so whether you want to have your totally instagramable breakfast in bed or on your patio, you are equipped with everything you need.  Checking in and out is as easy as sending a text message so there is no need to stand in line and check in at a front desk you just walk up to your cabin with a personalized door code and you’re in for your stay. The grounds are beautifully stunning, and full of some very cute wildlife. As soon as we pulled onto the property we were greeted by cows, both large and small, bunnies, deer, and a slow moving armadillo. I fell in love with this place as soon as we pulled in and I will most definitly be back for another visit.
